Unconscious Bias Training - Target Audience

We all have unconscious biases, and they are a natural process designed to help us speeding up our decision-making processes. However, they can also cause us to make inaccurate positive or negative assumptions about the people around us, and cause us to treat them unfairly or put them at a disadvantage.

In a 2019 Deloitte study of 3,000 workers, 39% said they experience bias at least once a month, and 68% stated that experiencing or witnessing bias has negatively affected their productivity. For this reason, we must all understand and recognise what our unconscious biases are and take steps to prevent them from affecting our personal and business lives, and the lives of those around us.

Overview

Unconscious bias in the workplace is a serious issue, and can cause people to experience unfair treatment or greater difficulties at work. As a result, anyone who works significantly with others should understand the concept of unconscious bias and raise awareness of it within the workplace to help reduce bias and ensure that everyone is treated equally.

This course covers:

What unconscious biases, stereotypes and prejudices are.
What the different forms of unconscious bias are.
The issues created by unconscious bias.
What individuals and organisations can do to manage unconscious bias.

After completing the course content, candidates will be able to answer several questions, including:

What is unconscious bias?
What are the different forms of unconscious bias?
How can organisations prevent unconscious bias?

Duration

It takes approximately 45 minutes to complete the course. This can be spread out over multiple sessions, or completed in a single session, and there is no time limit for completion.

Assessment

All candidates must complete a multiple choice assessment after working through the training material. The candidate will be asked 12 multiple choice questions and need to answer a minimum of 9 correctly to pass. Candidates will be given instant feedback after completing the assessment stating whether they have passed or failed. The assessment can be retaken as many times as is required to pass at no additional cost.

The different forms of unconscious bias, such as gender bias.

Module 2 - Individual responsibilities

This module explores some of the measures that organisations can take to:

Eliminate unconscious bias during recruitment.
Eliminate unconscious bias during promotions and appraisals.
Create a more inclusive workplace.

Unconscious Bias Training - Accreditation and Certification

CPD Certificate

Successful candidates will receive a CPD Certificate and 1 CPD Credit.

This certificate has no expiry date because there is no formally recognised period of validity for this type of course. The HSE recommends refresher training is carried out whenever it is felt necessary. Safety registration bodies such as CHAS, SafeContractor, ConstructionLine & SMAS and other members of the SSiP scheme recommend that most re-training is done every 3 years. We would recommend refreshing knowledge as and when legislation or guidance changes applicable to these regulations.

All of our courses, systems and services have been registered to the internationally recognised ISO 9001:2015 quality standard. Quality Management Systems Ltd (QMS) made this prestigious award to Commodious in January 2018.
