Food poisoning affects millions of people each year in the UK, the seriousness of which cannot be underestimated. Good food hygiene is essential to ensure that we are not harmed in any way from the food and drink we consume. As a food handler you have a legal obligation to ensure that you do not cause harm to anyone through bad practice, ignorance or neglect.

EU Regulation 852/2004 Hygiene for Foodstuffs requires Food Businesses to make sure that any staff who handle food are supervised, instructed and trained in Food Hygiene in a way that is appropriate to the work they do. This online course meets these training requirements and fully satisfies other training requirements such as FSA and Sector Skills First.

Course Structure

The course comprises 3 interactive modules and a final assessment. Links to recommended reading and additional resources may be provided within the training modules. These links are not mandatory and will not be tested for in the final assessment.

Duration

It takes approximately 55 minutes to complete the course in full. This can be spread out over multiple sessions or completed in a single session. There is no time limit for completion.

Assessment

All candidates must complete a multiple choice assessment after working through the training material. The candidate will be asked 12 multiple choice questions, randomly chosen from a larger question pool, and need to answer a minimum of 9 correctly to pass. Candidates will be given instant feedback after completing the assessment stating whether they have passed or failed. The assessment can be re-taken as many times as required at no additional cost.

Accreditation and certification

Successful candidates will receive a ConCEST accredited certificate and 1 CPD Credit

Food Safety Level 1 Online Training Course Certificate

Objectives

This online Food Safety (Level 1) course will help organisations meet their legal obligations and provide candidates with a thorough awareness of the dangers associated with poor food safety and hygiene and the management and control measures required to control the risks.

After completing the course, candidates will:

  • Understand the importance of good food hygiene;
  • Understand the legal obligation on all food handlers to ensure food safety;
  • Have knowledge of the various forms of food contamination;
  • Be aware of food storage and preservation methods;
  • Understand the importance of good personal hygiene;
  • Understand the importance of good housekeeping food preparation and handling areas.

 Target Audience

This online course is a general awareness course for employees working in establishments where there is direct handling of low risk food with limited food preparation such as front of house staff, kitchen porters or workers in a sandwich shop, cafe or bar. The course is designed to satisfy the training and awareness requirements of relevant legislation and regulations including The Food Safety Act 1990 (amended) and Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 on the hygiene of foodstuffs. A level 2 food safety course is also available in our catalogue.
