Banksmen, often called traffic marshals or signallers, play a vital part in maintaining workplace safety. They are operatives trained to direct vehicle movement on or around site including supervising safe movement of vehicles and safe crane lifts.
You will find banksmen, traffic marshals, signallers and slingers as they are varyingly called across a number of different workplaces, including: construction sites; docks; factories; and warehouses.
This banksman course considers the various roles of a banksman and details the accepted banksman signals and verbal code words as recommended by the Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996.
This banksman and traffic marshal training course is a general awareness course aimed at anybody who may take instruction from banksmen such as delivery drivers, crane operators, site operatives and contractors in order that safe movement of vehicles and lifting operations can be achieved on site.
The course is designed to satisfy the training and awareness requirements of relevant legislation and regulations including Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

The banksman awareness certificate has no expiry date because there is no formally recognised period of validity for any health and safety training. The HSE recommends refresher training is carried out whenever it is felt necessary. Safety registration bodies such as CHAS, SafeContractor, ConstructionLine & SMAS and other members of the SSiP scheme recommend most re-training is done every 3 years.
All of our courses, systems and services have been registered to the internationally recognised ISO 9001:2015 quality standard. Quality Management Systems Ltd (QMS) made this prestigious award to Commodious in January 2018. This gives assurance that the training and assessment was completed with a quality registered organisation.

The role of the banksman in a safe lift is detailed in this course however, the actual planning of a safe lift is outside the scope of this course. The planning of safe lifts is covered by the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) 1998 and is covered in our LOLER course.
